Total containerized shipments handled by major shipping lines during October in 12 countries and regions in Asia (including Japan) shrank 2.6% from 1.049 million TEUs to 1.021 million TEUs.

In particular, exports from Japan suffered a double-digit fall of 16.6% to 166,000 TEUs, and imports waned 7.3% to 190,000 TEUs.

On a cumulative basis, the total volume in the trade boosted 9.8 percent (approximately 932,000 TEUs) year on year to 10.45 million TEUs from January to October 2010 ? from the 9.518 million TEUs moved in the corresponding 10 months of 2009, but it failed to mark a double-digit increase.

From January to October, Japan exported a total of 1.862 million TEUs, up 8.4% (approximately 144,000 TEUs) and imported 2.002 million TEUs, up 6.3% (approximately 118,000 TEUs).
