The Standardization Administration of the People's Republic of China (SAC) has announced that the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) on July 1, 2010, officially published the ''PAS (Publicly Available Specification) 18186'' on freight container RFID tag system, the first standards proposed and documented by China in the field of logistics and announced by the ISO. The specification is based on China's national standard Supply Chain Monitoring Applications in Containers Sealed Electronic Box Technical Specifications (GB/T23678-2009).

ISO/PAS 18186 specifies how freight container logistic transparency and efficiency can be improved through use of an RFID cargo shipment tag system and an Internet-based software package. It would help speed up development of low-cost, safe, reliable, easy-to-use electronic devices, will enhance the level of security for international container transport.

ISO/PAS18186 will be circulated as Draft International Standard among member countries for five months. When approved after the two-month voting period, it will be officially published as International Standard by the ISO.
