Containerized shipments handled at ports in China during the first half of 2010 (January-June) reached an all-time high of 68,701,800 TEUs, according to statistics compiled by the Ministry of Transport.

It was an increase of 22.3% from the first half of 2009 and 11.4% from the corresponding period of 2008, when 61,647,600 TEUs were processed.

In breakdown, throughput was favorable both at coastal and inland river ports, to and from which 61,897,800 TEU were transported, up 22.1%, and 6,803,900 TEU, up 24.3 percent, respectively.

In June 2010 alone, 12,263,000 TEUs were carried to and from China, which represented an improvement of 22.2% from a year earlier, but a slight decrease of 1.4% from a month earlier.

During the month in question, coastal ports were responsible for 1,035,500 TEUs, up 22%, and inland river ports, 1,227,400 TEUs, up 24 percent.
