Westbound container movement from Asia to Europe surged 20.88% from a year before to 1,127,300 TEUs in May, enjoying a double-digit year-on-year increase for the fourth straight month, but eastbound shipments fell 6.3% on year to 466,600 TEUs, registering the first decline in 11 months, according the European Liner Affairs Association (ELAA).
In the transatlantic trade, double-digit growth continued in May in both directions, with westbound containers from Europe to North America soaring 15.81% to 272,400 TEUs and eastbound boxes, 13.18% to 227,200 TEUs.
