South Korea's Ministry of Land, Transport and Maritime Affairs opened the three berths of Pyeongtaek New Container Terminal (PNCT) on June 1 which had been completed in September 2006 to handle increasing import and export cargoes in the Pan Yellow Sea Economic Region.

The container terminal where three 2,000-TEU vessels can come alongside the piers at the same time was a BTO project that cost 168 billion won in total (35 billion from public funds and 133 billion from private funds). It is equipped with a facility that specially handles frozen or hazardous goods containers, and bonded warehouses, cutting edge unloading and operation systems.

In addition, Pyeongtaek port is emerging as the fourth largest port in South Korea as it has seen 19.6% of growth for the last three years in cargo handling at PCTC which is currently under operation. With the opening of the new container terminal, Pangtaek and Dangjin ports will be capable of handling 360 to 720 thousand TEUs.
