Laos and Vietnam have signed a joint-venture agreement in Vientiane to establish the Vung Ang Lao-Viet Seaport Joint Stock Company which will develop and operate Vung Ang Port in the northern Vietnamese province.
Laos has no seaports. In a bid to solve the logistics problems for transporting its imports and exports, the Lao government signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Vietnamese counterpart for the project in February 2009.
Vung Ang Port is 10-15 meters deep and can accommodate 50,000-ton class vessels.
