Container traffic between China and South Korea showed a slight increase of 1.6% to 337,995 TEUs in 2009 despite such negative factors as the global economic depression and cold weather, according to statistics compiled by the Yellow Sea Passenger and Cargo Shipping Committee which is made up of 14 passenger - cargo ferry operators.
Route-wise, Weidong Ferry’s Incheon ? Weihai service transported the largest volume of 45,555 TEUs in 2009, down 3.9% from the previous year. Ranked second was Lianyungang C-K Ferry’s Incheon ? Lianyungang service with volume of 39,082 TEUs, up 2.1% from 2008, followed by the same company’s Inchoen ? Qingdao service, carrying 38,248 TEUs, down 14.3% year on year. Lianyungang is enhancing its position as a gateway port for the Eurasia landbridge service.
