Container cargo shipped from Asia to Europe managed a year-on-year increase of 2% in November 2009 to 969,783 TEUs, according to the European Liner Affairs Association. This was the first increase in the year.
Eastbound, box traffic from Europe to Asia soared 30% from the same months in 2008 to 463,402 TEUs.
On the India and the Middle East/Europe trade, westbound and eastbound containers were both flat in November showing a sign of touching bottom with westbound volume of 124,729 TEUs and eastbound traffic of 194,509 TEUs.
