The accumulated number of passengers travelling between South Korea and China in ferry services in the first four months (January-April) plunged 12.7% year on year to 443,028 under the influence of China’s acts of retaliation against South Korea, which had decided to adopt the U.S.’ Terminal High Attitude Area Defense (THAAD) anti-ballistic missile system. In contrast, container movement on the trade was brisk, improving 8.1% to 190,631 TEUs.

By route, containers volumes went up 20.4% to 18,442 TEUs between Inchon and Weihai, down 0.2% to 15,240 TEUs between Inchon and Qingdao, up 6.1% to 10,675 TEUs between Inchon and Yentai, up 25.6% to 13,068 TEUs between Pyeongtaek and Yentai, up 27.2% to 14,560 TEUs between Pyongtaek and Rizhao and up 21.1% to 16,228 TEUs between Inchon and Shidao.
