The Port of Busan handled 11,361,000 TEUs of containers in the first seven months (January-July) of this year, which increased 5.1% from the corresponding months of 2014, according to a report compiled by the Busan Port Authority (BPA). In breakdown, exports and imports went up 2.2% to 5,473,000 TEUs in total, and transshipment (T/S) cargo, up 7.9% to 5,888,000 million TEUs, indicating the latter had a more significant impact on the total container throughput.

By trade partner, the BPA report said that containerized shipments to and from China and the U.S. both grew mildly, going up 1.2% year on year to 1,026,426 TEUs and up 2.8% to 791,948 TEUs, respectively. On the other hand, those to and from Europe declined 2.7% to 622,272 TEUs, while exports to and imports from Japan were more sluggish, sinking 7.6% to a total of 740,835 TEUs.
