The Suez Canal Authority (SCA) has imposed a suspension of the 15% discount on transit fees granted to large containerships passing through the Suez Canal, which has taken effect since Tuesday. The decision has cancelled the rebate announced in May 2025, the SCA said in a circular published on its website on April 2.

The discount measure was introduced to have containerships back to the Suez Canal that had been rerouted around the Cape of Good Hope to avoid Houthi attacks. Starting May 15, 2025, laden or ballast containerships with a Suez Canal net tonnage (SCNT) of 130,000 tons or above, transiting the Suez Canal (northbound or southbound), was granted a 15% rebate on transit. Requiring no request or document presentation, the rebate was granted when containerships transit the waterway.
