Drewry's Intra-Asia Container Index (IACI) dropped by $2 in Week 8 to $555 per FEU, which was 10% lower year on year. Drewry expects the freight market to remain low this week, with a rebound anticipated after Lunar New Year holiday as production resumes and backlogs build.

Spot rates were unchanged at $47 per FEU from Busan to Shanghai, $50 per FEU from Hochi Minh City to Shanghai, and $54 per FEU from Jakarta to Shanghai; down 2% to $800 per FEU from Shanghai to Jawaharlal Nehru; down 9% to $655 per FEU from Shanghai to Singapore; down 2% to $1,124 per FEU from Shanghai to Tanjung Pelepas; and unchanged at $780 per FEU from Shanghai to Yokohama and $115 per FEU from Yokohama to Shanghai.

The IACI is a weighted average of spot rates on 18 major lanes within Asia that do not include terminal handling charges (THCs), which include those to and from four Northeast Asian nations (Japan, China, South Korea and Taiwan), five Southeast Asian nations (Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Thailand and Vietnam) and two Southwest Asian nations (India and the United Arab Emirates, or UAE). The index is unveiled every two weeks.
