The Kobe City Government’s Port and Harbor Bureau signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Vietnam’s Long An International Port on Monday to expand trade to and from the Port of Kobe, develop human resources and so on.

Some 40 kilometers south of Ho Chi Minh City, Long An International Port is a developing port that just began handling containerized shipments in 2023. Working actively to attract investment from all over the world, it is highly promising.

The city of Kobe started discussions with Long An International Port during the 2025 World Ports Conference, which the International Association of Ports and Harbors (IAPH) convened in Kobe on Oct. 7-9. With the MoU as a start, Kobe will strive to enhance a partnership with the Vietnamese port and promote further mutual development.

The MoU says the Port of Kobe and Long An International Port will 1) join hands to increase trade between themselves with container, conventional and other freighters to provide convenient services of high quality; 2) reinforce maritime transport information exchanges to share knowledge on trends in relevant industries, maritime transport technology and international maritime transport markets; and 3) have human exchanges and make mutual visits to develop port and harbor human resources.
