When asked how the U.S. additional tariffs will affect Japanese enterprises in the U.S., it was found in a recent survey that 49.6% fear that relevant costs will lower their competitiveness. Regarding how they will respond to the tariffs, 48% said they will keep the status quo in prices and other terms and conditions. They both accounted for the largest parts of answers to the respective questions.

The Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO) conducted a survey in August, having responds from 3,234 enterprises and other organizations. It was the second such survey after the first one in April.

It was also discovered that many companies do not know or cannot evaluate the impact of the tariffs, accounting for 47%. As for responds to the tariffs, 37.7% replied they will pass on increases in burden to sales prices, but only 9.6% said they have increased prices or will do so. On the other hand, firms that are not sure they will be able to take such actions amounted to 48.5%, meaning that many are faced with uncertainty in respect to price negotiations.
