Japan’s six major ports handled a total of 1.18 million TEUs of foreign-trade containers in June, up 3.5% from a year earlier for a year-on-year increase for the seventh consecutive month, according to preliminary statistics compiled by the nation’s transport ministry. Exports accounted for 592,004 TEUs, up 2.5%, and imports, 586,211 TEUs, up 4.4%.

Individually, Tokyo processed 368,391 TEUs, up 4.2%, of which exports grew 0.4% to 164,134 TEUs, and imports, 7.5% to 204,257 TEUs. Containers to and from Kawasaki decreased 2.3% to 6,845 TEUs, consisting of 3,372 TEUs of exports, down 1.3%, and 3,473 TEUs of imports, down 3.2%. Yokohama exported 133,628 TEUs, up 6.2%, and imported 107,596 TEUs, up 1.9%, for a total of 241,244 TEUs, up 4.2%. Nagoya was responsible for 214,667 TEUs, up 2.5%, exporting 114,020 TEUs, up 2.4%, and importing 100,647 TEUs, up 2.6%. Osaka handled 169,959 TEUs, up 2.3%, of which exports accounted for 79,682 TEUs, up 3.8%, and imports, 90,277 TEUs, up 1.1%. Kobe processed 177,129 TEUs, up 3.3%, exporting 97,168 TEUs, up 0.7%, and 79,961 TEUs, up 6.8%.
