The Port of Shimizu in central Japan handled 35,521 TEUs of foreign-trade containers in July, up 2.4%, a year-on-year increase for the fifth straight month, according to the Shizuoka Prefectural Government's Shimizu Port Authority.
As for loaded containers, 13,291 TEUs were exported, up 0.5%, and 17,343 TEUs were imported, up 7.3%. Empty containers totaled 4,887 ETUs, down 7.5%. Meanwhile, domestic containers amounted to 8,236 TEUs in total, down 18.8%, which made overall container throughput 43,757 TEUs, down 2.4%.
In the first seven months (January-July), foreign-trade containers to and from Shimizu added up to 234,912 TEUs, up 2.1%. Exports of loaded containers accounted for 86,918 TEUs, up 0.4%, and imports, 114,805 TEUs, up 2.7%. Empties came to 33,189 TEUs, up 4.8%. Total throughput came to 298,288 TEUs, ,up 1%.
