The International Longshoremen’s Association (ILA) and the International Dockworkers Council (IDC) are calling on maritime unions worldwide to unite at the People Over Profit Anti-Automation Conference on Nov. 5-6 in Lisbon, Portugal.
It will be a pivotal summit to bring together dockworkers, seafarers, tug boat workers, marine engineers, master mates and pilots and all maritime labor leaders under one roof, according to ILA Executive Vice President Dennis A. Daggett. Its purpose will be to collectively strategize, share experiences, and strengthen our united front against the rise of job replacing automation.
Invited maritime unions are expected to confirm their attendance and the total number of expected delegates by Aug. 1, according to a letter from the IDC. The IDC comprises 92 organizations from 41 countries and has over 100,000 affiliated members.
