Container shipping service operators are returning to the Suez Canal. CMA CGM will be one next month in its Med. Express (MEDEX) service, according to Linerlytica.

The fixed-day weekly South Asia/Middle East-Mediterranean service, which is operated with 10 6,000- to 10,000-TEU vessels, will be operated in a new port-of-call rotation of Abu Dhabi, Jebel Ali, Karachi, Colombo, Jeddah, Piraeus, Marta, Genoa, Fos, Barcelona, Valencia, Jeddah and Abu Dhabi.

In early May, a ceasefire agreement was reached between the U.S. and Houthis, which said at that time it would discontinue attacks on commercial vessels. No attacks on commercial vessels have, in fact, been confirmed since the second half of 2024. However, many of the shipowners that have rerouted their services along the Cape of Good Hope are still taking a cautious stance to have them back to the Red Sea and the Suez Canal due to security uncertainty.
