The Intra-Asia Container Index (IACI) increased 11% in the fortnight through last Tuesday to $668 per FEU, according to Drewry. The index, higher by 39% from a year earlier, turned upward after seven consecutive 14-day periods.

Spot rates on trunk routes were as follows: $105 per FEU from Busan to Shanghai, down 1%; $51 per FEU from Ho Chi Minh City to Shanghai, down 4%; $62 per FEU from Jakarta to Shanghai, up 15%; $971 per FEU from Shanghai to Jawaharlal Nehru, up 13%; $612 per FEU from Shanghai to Singapore, down 10%; $1,060 per FEU from Shanghai to Tanjung Pelepas, down 2%; $812 per FEU from Shanghai to Yokohama, up 2%; and -$70 per FEU from Yokohama to Shanghai, down 1%.

The IACI reports actual spot container freight rates for major intra-Asia trade routes. The index, which is updated fortnightly, consists of 18 route-specific indices representing individual shipping routes to and from China; three Northeast Asian economies (Japan, South Korea and Taiwan); five Southeast Asian nations (Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Thailand and Vietnam; two South and West Asian countries (India and the United Arab Emirates, or UAE) and others and a composite index. All indices are reported in the U.S. dollar per 40-foot container.
