The Port of Yokohama will operate the Container Fast Pass (CONPAS) on a trial basis  at container terminals of its Minami Honmoku Pier on Feb. 17-21 to in preparation for adding to the system a new function for checking information on incoming containers in advance. It was decided on Tuesday during the 13th meeting of a council for discussing improvements in container transport efficiency with information and communications technology (ICT) set up by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism (MLIT)’s Kanto Regional Development Bureau.

The new function is designed to avoid troubles in gate formalities and control increases in processing time by linking CyberPort, a trade platform developed by the MLIT; CONPAS, a port information system developed by the same ministry; and terminal operating systems (TOSs) and comparing electronic gate-in slips in shipping lines’ systems with cargo information in TOSs before loaded containers are delivered to terminals. In the future, it is expected to lead to abolishing paper gate-in slips to dramatically reduce human burdens of checking information on incoming containers and contribute to other efficiency improvements.

The meeting also looked into the operation of CONPAS at the container terminals in Minami Honmoku, which have introduced the system on a full-fledged basis, and the trial operations carried out earlier in this fiscal year at all container terminals in Honmoku. Future policies were on the table as well.

In fiscal 2025, CONPAS will be operated on a trial basis in Minami Honmoku in July and November and began full-time operations at BC2 Container Terminal in March 2026.
