The latest KOBC Container Composite Index (KCCI) quoted 3,259 points on Monday, Korea Ocean Business Corp. (KOBC) announced on the same day. The index picked up 2.23% from a week earlier as freight rates for container exports from Busan increased in double digits on the routes to Europe and the Mediterranean.
On the main lanes from Busan, the individual KCCIs fell 0.17% to 5,149 points to the U.S. West Coast and 6.01% to 5,759 points to the U.S. East Coast. In contrast, the KCCIs jumped 20.4% to 4,009 points to Europe and 18.45% to 4,109 points to the Mediterranean.
On the non-main lanes, the KCCIs decreased 3.89% to 2,470 points to the Middle East, 0.16% to 6,720 points to the east coast of Central and South America and 0.68% to 4,706 points to West Africa. On the other hand, the KCCIs improved 2.16% to 4,351 points to Australia, 4.05% to 4,364 points to the west coast of Central and South America and 1.91% to 5,876 points to Southern Africa.
In the intra-Asia waters, the KCCIs stood at 1,141 points to Southeast Asia, up 0.8%; 47 points to China, unchanged; and 242 points to Japan, up 0.82 points.
KOBC unveils the comprehensive and individual KCCIs for spot rates for container exports from Busan to U.S., Europe and 11 other major destinations that include terminal handling and other charges. The comprehensive index is the weighted average of the 13 individual indices, which reflect container movement and other factors on the 13 trades.
