A total of 2.32 million TEUs of containers were traded between South Korea and China in the first eight months (January-August) of this year, which swelled 9.48% year on year, according to the Yellow Sea Liner Shipping Council (YSLSC). The total included 21.8 million TEUs of exports and imports, up 8.66%, and 134,556 TEUs of containers moved in feeder services, up 4.76%.
Containers from South Korea to China accounted for 802,805 TEUs, up 9.62%, consisting of 762,589 TEUs of exports, up 7.64%, and 58,216 TEUs of feeder cargo, up 44.58%. Meanwhile, those from China to South Korea amounted to 1.5 million TEUs, up 9.4%, of which imports totaled 1.42 million TEUs, up 9.22%, and feeder containers, 76,340 TEUs, up 12.85%.
Looking at throughput at major ports in China, Shanghai handled 597,139 TEUs, up 5.76; Xingang, 276,453 TEUs, up 14.7%; Qingdao, 409,497 TEUs, up 16.75%; Dalian, 113,823 TEUs up 1.88%; and Ningbo, 236,231 TEUs, down 0.1%.
