In April, 141,528 used vehicles (passenger cars, cargo freighters, buses and EVs) were exported from Japan, up 10.8% from a year earlier, according to trade statistics provided by the Ministry of Finance (MOF) and compiled by the International Auto Trade Association (iATA). Used vehicle exports have continued to increase year on year for 19 straight months since October 2022.

Exports to Russia swelled 4.3% to 20,052 units, gaining the top position for the first time in nine months. They were priced at an average of some ?1.05 million (US$6,704). Ranked second were those to the United Arab Emirates (UAE), which surged 17.2% to 18,971 units and were averaged at about ?370,000 (US$2,362). Finishing in third place were exports to Mongolia, which jumped 72.7% to 11,487 units. They were priced at approximately ?1.02 million (US$6,511) on average, a notable rise of some ?150,000 (US$958) from the previous month.

There were considerable increases in exports of secondhand vehicles to Malaysia, Pakistan and Singapore, but those to Thailand, Cyprus, Australia and Jamaica shrank.
