The composite Shanghai Containerized Freight Index (SCFI), which reflects ex-Shanghai container spot rates that do not include terminal handling charges (THCs), stood at 1,033.65 points in Week 15, which grew 8% from the previous week. Rising more steeply than Week 14, the index has continued to improve for three weeks running.

Spot rates for container exports from Shanghai declined 0.7% to $871 per TEU to Europe and 0.2% to $1,681 per TEU to the Mediterranean. On the other hand, they surged 29.1% to $1,668 per FEU to the west coast of North America and 19.5% to $2,565 per FEU to the east coast.

On north-south routes, ex-Shanghai spot rates slid 11.8% to $1,535 per TEU to southern Africa and 4.5% to $255 per TEU to Australia and New Zealand. In contrast, they soared 11.8% to $1,221 per TEU to the Middle East Gulf and 10.3% to $2,005 per TEU to South America. Rates improved 3.5% to $2,749 per TEU to eastern and western Africa.

In intra-Asia waters, spot rates for containers from Shanghai slightly increased to Japan, rising 1.3% to $323 per TEU to Kansai and 0.9% to $332 per TEU to Kanto. However, rates fell 2.6% to $191 per TEU to Southeast Asia and 7.1% to $171 per TEU to South Korea.
