The Cargo Incident Notification System (CINS), the International Group of P&I Clubs, the TT Club and the International Cargo Handling Coordination Association (ICHCA) have formulated and unveiled guidelines for safely transport lithium-ion batteries in containers.
“Lithium-ion Batteries in Containers Guidelines” have been created to prevent accidents while lithium-ion batteries are carried by sea and ensure supply chain safety. To this end, they inform those engaged in production, supply, transport, sales and others of the properties of lithium-ion batteries and how to prevent ignitions, explosions and toxic gas generation. The guidelines can be downloaded from CINS' website.
