Container exports from Japan to the U.S. amounted to 47,671 TEUs in February (based on volumes at ports of receipt), which increased 4.7% from a month earlier and 5.3% from a year earlier, according to Descartes Datamyne.

Direct shipments accounted for 31,908 TEUs on the route, which ballooned 13.4% year on year. Containers transshipped on the way totaled 15,763 TEUs, which decreased 7.9% and fell below the 20,000-TEU line for the first time in 12 months. They constituted 33.1% of the total. South Korea was responsible for 10,427 TEUs, down 4.3%; Taiwan, 2,402 TEUs, up 30.6%; China, 2,104 TEUs, down 0.6%; and Singapore, 505 TEUs, down 63.2%.
