Across the major trades (trans-Pacific, trans-Atlantic and Asia-North Europe/Mediterranean), 117 cancelled sailings have been announced for the period between Week 52 (Dec. 26-Jan.1) and Week 4 (Jan. 23-28), out of a total of 709 scheduled sailings, representing a 17% cancellation rate, according to Drewry Maritime Research's Cancelled Sailings Tracker. During this period, 54% of the blank sailings will be occurring on the eastbound trans-Pacific trade, 24% on the Asia-North Europe/Mediterranean trade and 22% on the westbound trans-Atlantic trade.

Over the next five weeks, THE Alliance - Hapag-Lloyd, Ocean Network Express (ONE), Yang Ming Marine Transport and HMM - has announced 53.5 cancelations, accounting for the largest part, followed by Ocean Alliance - CMA CGM, COSCO Shipping Lines, Evergreen Marine and Orient Overseas Container Line (OOCL) - announcing 21.5 cancellations and 2M - MSC and Maersk - announcing 10 cancellations. During the same period, 32 blank sailings have been implemented in non-Alliance services.

The total number of cancelled sailings in the major east-west routes has increased by a striking 145% year on year, from 621 blank sailings in 2021 to 1,524 in 2022, with 45% of the cancellations occurring on the westbound trans-Pacific trade.
