Mizuho Bank's industry research department projects that in 2022, overall seaborne container movement in North America, Europe and Asia will decrease 1.2% from the previous year due to Russia's invasion of Ukraine, the discontinuation of stay-at-home growth demand and weak personal consumption owing to global inflation. In the next five year, in contrast, the department envisages that container trade in the regions will grow at an annual rate of 2.6% in line with expansions in the economies of countries. However, it still think there will be various uncertainties, such as China's zero-COVID policy, Russia's invasion of Ukraine and economic slowdowns.
