Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone (APSEZ) handled 177.47 million tons of cargo in the first half of fiscal 2022 (April-September), which grew 11% year on year. Dry bulk cargo increased a notable 18%, but containers only swelled a milder 3%, amounting to 4.23 million TEUs. Growth in throughput at Mundra, Dahej and Krishnapatnam was mainly attributed to rises in coal volumes.

APSEZ, the logistics arm of Indian multinational conglomerate Adani Group, once focused on the enhancement of local facilities to which coal is imported from abroad. To raise its global ESG reputation, however, it has been shifting its focus from processing coal and other dry bulk cargo items at ports to containers in recent years.

Container demand has extraordinarily increased in the last two years due to the coronavirus pandemic. Nevertheless, disruptions in container logistics have been showing signs of recovery since the second half of this year. Major shipping companies are, as such, making downward revisions of their full-year container logistics performances and business results.
