Outbound containers from 18 Asian countries and regions to the U.S. amounted to 1,989,974 TEUs in August, which grew 12.9% from a year earlier to a new record for the month in question and have increased year on year for eight months in a row, according to the Japan Maritime Center (JMC). In January-August, they totaled 15,114,464 TEUs, which rose 7.2%.

Looking at August exports from Asia by origin, those from China accounted for 1,152,270 TEUs, up 13.6%; from South Korea, 106,291 TEUs, up 0.9%; and from Taiwan, 72,933 TEUs, up 12.3%, the JMC has said in reference to Automated Commercial Environment (ACE) and bill-of-lading (B/L) data provided by the U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP). Exports from Japan also expanded notably, as those of automobile and machinery became smoother due to logistics normalization. They surged 20.7% to 54,410 TEUs. Containers from the ASEAN soared 19.5% to 465,021 TEUs in total, thanks to improvements in those from all member nations. Exports from South Asia were also brisk, jumping 11.5% to 129,927 TEUs.
