The Associated Society of Locomotive Engineers and Firemen (ASLEF) is calling on train divers of 12 railroads to go on strikes on Oct 1 and Oct. 5. The trade union, which cancelled a walkout it had planned for Sept. 15 due to the passing of Queen Elizabeth II, will take its third and fourth actions since July. The ASLEF is joined by 96% of the motormen in England, Scotland and Wales. The union has long held talks with employers, demanding wage increases commensurate with inflation levels. At this point, however, it is not expected they will reach an agreement anytime soon.
