Chinese ports handled 23.07 million TEUs of containers in December 2021, up 0.7% from the same month of the previous year, the nation’s Ministry of Transport (MOT) has unveiled. Coastal ports were responsible for 20.19 million TEUs, up 0.4%, while the remaining 2.88 million TEUs were moved to and from inland river ports, up 3.2%.

On a full-year scale, 282.72 million TEUs were traded to and from China last year, up 7% from 2020. Coastal ports processed 249.33 million TEUs, up 6.4%. Throughput was more favorable at inland river ports, amounting to 33.4 million TEUs, up 11.3%.
