In Week 28, spot rates for container exports from Shanghai to Europe and the Mediterranean hiked 4.1% to $7,023 per TEU and 2.2% to 6,893 per TEU, respectively, according to the Shanghai Shipping Exchange (SSE).

The average load factor of container carriers from the Chinese port to North America was quite high, as many were fully loaded, which lifted fares to the east and west coasts 3.2% to $9,655 per FEU and 6.2% to $5,334 per FEU, respectively.

Demand continued to rise on other routes as well. Freight rates increased 3.4% to $3,373 per TEU on the Middle East Gulf trade and 5.8% to $3,002 per TEU on the Australia and New Zealand trade. On the South America route, however, rates remained unchanged at $9,383 per TEU.

On the trade route to Japan, containers were transported at $287 per TEU to Kansai and $284 per TEU to Kanto, which fell 0.3% and 4.1%, respectively.
