Container exports to the U.S. from 10 major countries and regions in Asia amounted to 1,827,714 TEUs in May, surging 58% from a year earlier, American research company Descartes Datamyne has unveiled. Enjoying a year-on-year increase for 11 months in a row, they broke their previous monthly record hit in March and reached a new all-time high.

Shipments from China, which accounted for 60% of the total, soared 54% to 1,093,530 TEUs, making a year-on-year improvement for the 12th consecutive month. Ranked second were those from South Korea, which hiked 31% to 167,189 TEUs. Coming in third place, exports from Vietnam more than doubled, jumping 111% to 157,903 TEUs, where a rise from a year earlier was registered for 10 months running. The fourth greatest source was Taiwan, which was responsible for 96,851 TEUs, up 36%. At the bottom of the top five, Singapore exported 79,370 TEUs, up 59%. Finishing in sixth, containers from India grew more than fivehold, skyrocketing 422% to 60,134 TEUs and recording a year-on-year expansion for 10 straight months. Number seven exporter was Thailand, from which 52,823 TEUs were shipped, up 53%, registering a year-on-year augmentation for the sixth month in a row. Getting eighth place, container exports from Hong Kong climbed 15% to 50,492 TEUs, while those from Japan inflated a more favorable 83% to 40,509 TEUs, reaching ninth position. At the end of the top 10, Malaysia exported 28,913 TEUs, which ballooned 176%.

Looking at export commodities that swelled notably, furniture grew 80.5% to 327,548 TEUs, holding the largest share of the pie. Auto-related products rose 57.7% to 75,330 TEUs, taking fifth position. Rubber products (tires) hit the eighth spot, soaring 75.5% to 64,476 TEUs. Textile products came in ninth place, going up 82.9% to 50,696 TEUs. At the bottom of the top 10, garments totaled 31,332 TEUs, up 44.6%. The total volume of the top 10 items came to 1,105,719 TEUs, up 38.7%, which accounted for 80.5% of all.
