Container exports to the U.S. from 10 major countries and regions in Asia surged 32.1% to 1,656,443 TEUs in April, enjoying a year-on-year improvement for 10 months in a row and setting a new monthly record, American research company Descartes Datamyne said. In the first four months (January-April), they totaled 6,571,797 TEUs, up 38.5%.

By origin, exports from China held the largest share, accounting for 987,834 TEUs, which soared 46.5% and registered an increase from a year earlier for the 11 consecutive month. They were followed by containers from South Korea, which picked up 0.3% to 154,242 TEUs. Ranked third were those from Vietnam, which swelled 35.5% to 130,560 TEUs and grew year on year for 10 months running. Coming in fourth place, exports from Taiwan amounted to 97,117 TEUs, up 9.7%. At the bottom of the top five were those from Singapore, which hiked 8.9% to 67,610 TEUs. Japan was the eighth largest source of containers destined to the U.S., which was responsible for 44,778 TEUs, up 8.5%.
