South Korean ports Busan New Port and Busan North Port handled a total of 1.73 million TEUs of containers in May, down 7.7% from 1.84 million TEUs, suffering a year-on-year contraction for three months in a row, according to statistics compiled by the Busan Port Authority (BPA).

Due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, exports and imports plunged a significant 15.7% to 741,000 TEUs from 879,000 TEUs in total. Transshipment (T/S) containers fell 0.9% to 989,000 TEUs from 994,000 TEUs.
