Japan International Freight Forwarders Association Inc. (JIFFA) on June 11 convened its ninth general assembly since becoming a general incorporated association in 2012. Agreement was reached at the meeting on projects that it will advance in fiscal 2020. JIFFA will this fiscal year hold introductory workshops on its transport terms and conditions online as well as courses for qualifying international multimodal transport specialists in Tokyo and Osaka. Also, it will strive to promote its transport documents, such as JIFFA MT B/L, JIFFA Waybill and JIFFA Forwarder’s Cargo Receipt (FCR).

The total volume of shipments that JIFFA-affiliated freight forwarders imported to and exported from Japan in fiscal 2019 amounted to 119.14 million tons. In terms of volume, it fell 5.4% from the previous fiscal year but still was the second-largest throughput after the record-high set in fiscal 2018. As for containerized shipments, 2.95 million TEUs were imported, and 1.98 million TEUs were exported for a total of 4.93 million TEUs.

JIFFA’s committees will continue to work hard on various activities in fiscal 2020 to promote education, training, research and JIFFA MT B/L to raise the quality of the freight forwarding industry in general.
