Container volumes handled by 12 state-run ports in India totaled 9.194 million TEUs in the first 11 months of the fiscal year of 2019/20 ended in February. The figure represents a 2.45% increase compared to 8.974 million TEUs in the same period of the previous year.

Jawaharlal Nehru Port (JNPT), the nation's busiest container port, handled 4.521 million TEUs, down 0.9% year on year, followed by Chennai's 1.286 million TEUs, down 13.5% and Kolkata's 789,000 TEUs, up 3.8% from a year earlier respectively.
