Container throughput at the port of Hong Kong Container throughput at the port of Hong Kong amounted to 1.579 million TEUs in December 2019, down 5.7% from the same month in 2018, representing a decline for 23 consecutive months.

Containers handled at Kwai Tsing Container Terminals accounted for 1.194 million TEUs, down 0.9%, suffering a year-on-year decrease for 18 months running. Meanwhile, the remaining 385,000 TEUs were processed in midstream operations and at the River Trade Terminal, up 6.3%, enjoying a year-on-year improvement for two months running.

The 2019 figures totaled 14.22 million TEUs, down 6.3% from the previous year. The Kwai Tsing Terminals handled 14.22 million TEUs, down 8.1% from a year earlier and mid-streaming volumes rose slightly by 0.5% on year to 4.144 million TEUs in 2019.
