In September, 201,273 TEUs of containers were directly traded between Taiwan and China, decreasing 8.4% year on year from 219,731 TEUs, the former’s Ministry of Transportation and Communications (MOTC) unveiled on Oct. 25. In the first nine months (January-September), a total of 1,833,242 TEUs were transported between the economies, down 2.82% from 1,886,450 TEUs.

Looking at container volumes shipped out of major ports in Taiwan, Kaohsiung was responsible for 900,909 TEUs, down 7.99%; Keelung, 433,698 TEUs, down 0.74%; Taichung, 412,479 TEUs, up 6.01%; and Taipei, 86,156 TEUs, up 5.92%. As these figures indicates, Taichung reached the top position in terms of year-on-year growth, while Taipei finished in second place.
