Total volume of containerized shipments moved in July on the Japan-South Korea route decreased 2.4% from a year earlier to 165,041 TEUs, adversely impacted by the trade dispute between the economies, according to statistics compiled by the Korea Nearsea Freight Conference (KNFC). As for local shipments, exports from Japan to South Korea increased 1.9% to 31,966 TEUs, but imports from South Korea to Japan declined 3.1% to 28,136 TEUs. Feeder cargo surged 19.5% to 21,589 TEUs, while transshipment (T/S) containers swelled 1.8% to 83,350 TEUs. The trade between the countries, which fell 3.7% to 967,365 TEUs in the first half (January-June), registering the first year-on-year contraction since the corresponding six months of 2015, remained weak in July.
