Freight rates for exporting containerized shipments from China decreased on major routes in the week of Sept. 9, as many services were suspended during the Mid-Autumn Festival on Sept. 13-15. The Shanghai Shipping Exchange (SSE) unveiled on Sept. 12 the Shanghai Containerized Freight Index (SCFI) for the week in question went down 3.7% from the previous week to 765.79 points.

On the trade to and from Europe, freight rates went down mildly, as carriers worked to do so. Spot rates for services from Shanghai declined 5.1% to $674 per TEU. Freight rates for services to and from the Mediterranean diminished 5.8% to $826 per TEU.

On the route to and from North America, many shipping lines withdraw their rate hike plans owing to growth in uncertainties from the trade friction between the U.S. and China, having an impact on freight rates. Those for services to and from the east and west coasts of North America waned 4.4% to $2,516 per FEU and 7.6% to $1,447 per FEU, respectively.
