Container volumes at the Port of Hong Kong for July marked the 18th straight month of decline.
Last month, box throughput fell 9.0% from the same period last year to 1.516 million TEUs. The Kwai Tsing terminals saw a 8.6% fall in throughput at 1.181 million TEUs while midstream operators handled 10.5% less containers with a total 335,000 TEUs, according to The Hong Kong Maritime and Port Board.
The cumulative throughput for the first seven months of 2019 stood at 10.578 million TEUs, down 8.3% from a year earlier. The Kwai Tsing terminals handled 8.262 million TEUs, down 8.7% year on year while mid stream volumes fell 6.8% year on year to 2.316 million TEUs.
