Container throughput at the port of Shimizu fell slightly by 0.9% from the same month last year to 44,022 TEUs in May, representing a decline for two consecutive months, according to Shimizu Port Authority, Shizuoka Prefectural Government.

International loaded exports plunged 17.6% from a year earlier to 12,387 TEUs while international loaded imports surged 9.7% on year to 19,557 TEUs. Empties totaled 5,860 TEUs, up 19.7% from the same month in 2018.

For the first five months, international loaded exports waned 8.6% from the same period last year to 74,940 TEUs while international loaded imports swelled 6.9% to 100,059 TEUs.
