Accumulated volume of containerized shipments traded between South Korea and Southeast Asia swelled 2% year on year to 957,000 TEUs in the first four months (January-April) of 2019, according to statistics compiled by an organization of South Korean carriers catering to Southeast Asian economies. In breakdown, exports from South Korea to Southeast Asia increased 3.7% to 469,000 TEUs, but imports from Southeast Asia to South Korea remained nearly unchanged, only growing 0.2% to 488,000 TEUs.

By trade partner, 314,000 TEUs were transported to and from Vietnam, up 10%, enjoying the largest share of the pie. To and from Hong Kong, 198,000 TEUs were moved, up 1%; to and from Thailand, 116,000 TEUs, down 0.6%; to and from Indonesia, 105,000 TEUs, up 11%; to and from Malaysia, 95,000 TEUs, down 2.7%; to and from Taiwan, 57,000 TEUs, down 4.3%; to and from the Philippines, 37,000 TEUs, down 15.4%; and to and from Singapore, 35,000 TEUs, down 1.3%.
