Cambodia's Big Two ports both achieved double-digit improvements in container throughput in 2018, according to the economy’s Ministry of Public Works and Transport (MPWT). Major factors were growth in demand for exports and imports, which was brought about by local economic expansions, and enhancements in container-handling capacity, which were made by improvements in port and harbor facilities, according to the ministry. Containers to and from HYPERLINK "https://eow.alc.co.jp/search?q=Sihanoukville&ref=awlj" Sihanoukville Autonomous Port (SAP), the only deepwater port in Cambodia, surged 16.9% year on year to 537,107 TEUs. Meanwhile, Phnom Penh Autonomous Port (PPAP), which is located in the capital city, handled 205,000 TEUs, up 11%.
