Ports in China handled a total of 229,110,700 TEUs of containers in the first 11 months (January-November) of 2018, up 5.3% year on year, according to the nation’s Ministry of Transport (MOT). Throughput improved at both coastal and inland river ports, up 5.3% to 188,819,000 TEUs and up 5.5% to 26,022,000 TEUs, respectively.

Looking at the top five coastal ports, Shanghai processed 384,299,000 TEUs, up 4.2%, enjoying the leading share. Ranked second was Ningbo-Zhoushan, which handled 24,470,700 TEUs, up 7.4%. Shenzhen finished in third place, where container lifting swell 2% to 23,627,100 TEUs. The fourth largest coastal port was Guangzhou, to and from which 17,831,300 TEUs were moved, up 7.4%. Placed at the bottom of the top five list was Qingdao, which processed 17,651,800 TEUs, up 5.4%.

As for inland river ports, meanwhile, 5,857,900 TEUs were carried to and from Suzhou, up 7.4%; 3,628,500 TEUs to and from Foshan, up 1.9%; 2,963,100 TEUs to and from Nanjing, up 1.9%; 1,421,600 TEUs to and from Wuhan, up 15.8% and 717,700 TEUs to and from Jiangmen, up 1.2%, among others.
