The Port of Hong Kong handled 1.513 million TEUs of containers in September, which suffered a double-digit contraction of 16.2% from a year earlier, according to statistics compiled by the Hong Kong Marine and Port Board (HKMPB). In breakdown, the Kwai Tsing Container Terminals processed 1.193 million TEUs, down 16.6%, while the remaining 320,000 TEUs were moved to and from other facilities-e.g., in midstream operations and at the River Trade Terminal-down 14.8%.

In the first nine months (January-September), overall container lifting fell 5.6% at 14.691 million TEUs at Hong Kong. Throughput was sluggish both at Kwai Tsing and others, which decreased 5.6% to 115.31 million TEUs and 5.3% to 3.161 million TEUs, respectively.
