The Shanghai Containerized Freight Index (SCFI) announced by the Shanghai Shipping Exchange on Friday climbed 3.1% to 890.52 from the previous Friday's reading of 863.59 as overall export cargo demand from Shanghai has been kept on the rise.

Spot rates for shipping containers from Shanghai to northern Europe in the week ended Friday increased 1 percent to $935 per TEU, while spot rates from Shanghai to the Mediterranean declined1.3% from a week earlier to $881 per TEU.

Meanwhile, spot rates from Shanghai to the U.S. West Coast surged 10.5% since the previous week $2,074 per FEU, while spot rates from Shanghai to the U.S. East Coast rose 8.9% to $3,099 per FEU.
