Total of 1,410,529 TEUs of containers were moved in May to the U.S. from 10 countries and regions in Asia, which increased 4.1% from a year earlier, according to the U.S. research company Descartes DataMyne. On an accumulated scale, an all-time high of 6,435,355 TEUs were traded on the route in the first five months (January-May), which grew 6.7%.

Looking at last month's eastbound container movement by origin, exports from China swelled 2.3% to 866,492, enjoying the largest share of the pie, according to a DataMyne report compiled with Automated Commercial Environment (ACE) and bill of lading (B/L) data provided by the U.S. Customs and Boarder Protection (CBP). They were followed by those from South Korea, which surged 15.6% to 155,634 TEUs. Finishing in fourth place, containers from Vietnam soared 19.5% to 70,686 TEUs, while those from India hiked a more notable 20% to 38,265 TEUs, coming in eighth. In contrast, exports from Taiwan went down 4.1% to 75,824 TEUs, which ranked third, and from Hong Kong, down 14.8% to 60,436 TEUs. Japan was the seventh largest source, from which 42,480 TEUs were shipped, down 0.4%.
